Honeywell will provide ballistic composite materials to ArmorSource, Short Bark Industries and KDH Defense Systems‘ for efforts by the latter three companies to build military protection products.
KDH Defense will use Honeywell’s Gold Shield and Spectra Shield products to create soft armor vest systems for the U.S. Army‘s next-generation Soldier Protection System, Honeywell said Tuesday.
Honeywell added KDH Defense will integrate Spectra Shield and Gold Shield into the design of SPS’ torso and extremity protection subsystem that aims to reduce weight by 26 percent.
Short Bark Industries will also use Spectra Shield to produce Ballistic Combat Shirts for the SPS TEP system, Honeywell noted.
SPS is designed to serve as a tailorable system in an effort to create a 10-percent overall weight reduction.
ArmorSource will produce Spectra Shield-based helmets to support U.S. and international militaries, Honeywell said in a separate release.
Helmets made with Spectra Shield redirect energy from ballistic threats to the head through Honeywell’s Advanced Dynamic Deflection Technology.
ArmorSource delivers Spectra Shield-based helmets to the State Department, U.S. Marshall Service and militaries in countries such as Australia, Austria, Italy and Spain.
Spectra Shield and Gold Shield products have been used for armor applications such as bullet-resistant vests, breast plates, helmets, combat vehicles and military aircraft.
