Florida Power & Light Company and Harris have partnered to transition the utility firm from an analog radio communication system to an integrated digital communication system.
Harris said Thursday its P25 digital network platform will work to support FPL’s operations across Florida and feature Symphony command center dispatch consoles, XL-200P digital handheld radios and BeOn narrowband and broadband integration platform.
Harris said the digital network will work to extend the range of FPL’s communication services across Florida’s 35 counties.
William Brown, Harris chairman, president and CEO, said the project allows Harris to provide new communication technology in support of the state’s utilities and first responders.
FPL is scheduled to deploy the new communication system to more than 3,000 power delivery teams and field employees by 2018.
The digital communication system is in line with FPL’s recent efforts to update its services and support system reliability.
