General Dynamics‘ NASSCO subsidiary will perform post-delivery repair and modernization work on the USNS Lewis B. Puller expeditionary mobile base under a potential $38.3 million contract awarded by the U.S. Navy.
The military branch received two offers for the contract through an online solicitation and obligated $34.5 million in funds at the time of award, the Defense Department said Thursday.
DoD added NASSCO will alter, modernize and integrate systems of Puller during the post-shakedown availability process in efforts to help the military branch use the ship for special operations.
The Navy said June 21 it would permanently deploy the expeditionary mobile base vessel to the U.S. 5th Fleet’s area of responsibility next year.
Navy personnel also conducted a four-day airborne countermine deployment training exercise on Puller in June.
NASSCO is scheduled to finish contract work April 2017.
