softwareGeneral Atomics has introduced a software platform designed to manage big data workloads.

The company said Thursday Nirvana 5.0 works to help clients in energy exploration, scientific research and media sectors manage data-intensive workflows as well as locate information through the use of workflow-defined metadata.

General Atomics’ metadata software is designed to consolidate multiple storage silos into one global namespace that works to migrate data to the cloud and other storage platforms.

Nirvana 5.0 is built to run with the PostgresSQL open-source database and has a system that works to screen up to 1 million files each minute.

Other features of the data placement software include a graphical user interface, support for Google cloud storage, Python programming language, and 64-bit Windows support.
