Randy Wood, vice president of federal sales at F5 Networks, has recommended federal information technology officials focus on what he describes as fundamental things necessary to address cyber threats.
Wood wrote in a blog post published Wednesday on Carahsoft‘s website that cyber attacks, threat vectors and a large selection of potential security offerings can be overwhelming federal IT leaders.
He suggests agencies look to a “zero trust” model that includes techniques such as device hardening, validation and multi-factor authentication to contain potential risks at the endpoints.
He also recommended the adoption of technologies such as SSL Break and Inspect or Air Gap solutions that address performance limitations across network.
Additionally, Wood recommends agencies fortify network perimeters to reflect access that is independent of time, space and device.
“Traditional perimeters were very rigid and structured; they had an edge around the datacenter with multiple tiers and structures surrounding that core,†he wrote.
