The Energy Department‘s Argonne National Laboratory and Exelon have signed a five-year cooperative research-and-development agreement to explore new technology that could support clean energy goals and help develop a next-generation energy grid.
Exelon said Tuesday the partnership aims to combine the company’s market knowledge with Argonne’s research and expertise in energy production and delivery.
The agreement also builds on Argonne and DoE’s efforts to identify technologies that can address grid reliability, efficiency and stability issues as well as subsequently introduce these technologies to the consumer market, Exelon added.
Argonne collaborates with scientists and entrepreneurs in the Chicago area and offers Exelon access to the region’s energy innovation and development hub through the partnership, the company noted.
