Australian naval officers have completed a two-month training course on the Lockheed Martin-built combat management system at Lockheed’s Moorestown, New Jersey-based Combat Systems Engineering Development Site.
The officers received training in the use of the Aegis combat system installed onboard the Australian navy’s HMAS Hobart air warfare destroyer, Lockheed said Tuesday.
“This course marks the commencement of the Australian navy’s integration of the Aegis Combat System into the future Australian fleet and a continuation of a very close cooperation with one of our most strategic international partners,” said Capt. Terry Morrison, director of the destroyers, surface combatant and aircraft branch of the Australian navy.
“It provided mid-level officers with the management-level information required to direct the operation in anti-air, anti-surface, and antisubmarine warfare and to manage combat system maintenance,” added Morrison.
The students led all warfare area operations, ran the Aegis display system and operated system consoles as part of multi-warfare scenarios during the training program, Lockheed said.
CSEDS also offers the Prospective Commanding Officer course for senior officers.
The training courses are a partnership between Lockheed, Australian government civilians and the U.S.  Navy‘s Center for Surface Combat Systems.
