The Department of Homeland Security‘s science and technology directorate has chosenÂ 10 startup companies to join a new research-and-development program that seeks to buildÂ wearable devicesÂ for first responders.
DHS said Thursday theÂ EMERGE 2016:Â Wearable Technology program offers startups the opportunity to equip emergency response personnel withÂ body-worn electronics, sensors and integrated voice and data communications systems.
â€œWe need to find technologies for first responders that can be integrated directly into their existing gear,” said Reginald Brothers, DHS under secretary for science and technology.
Startups selected forÂ the EMERGE 2016 program include:
- CommandWear Systems
- HAAS Alert
- Human Systems Integration
- Pear Sports
- Six15 Technologies
- Vault RMS
- Visual Semantics
DHS added the companiesÂ will have access to feedback from first responders as well as business development educational resources from industry partners and investors around the world.
