Lockheed Martin‘s Sikorsky subsidiary will open a new forward stocking location for the S-92 helicopter at the Aberdeen International Airport in Scotland as part of efforts to position inventory closer to commercial helicopter operators.
Lockheed said Tuesday Sikorsky will begin operations on the new FSL by the close of the third quarter and also expand an existing S-92 FSL at Stavanger Airport in Norway by the end of 2016.
Lockheed has a total of three Sikorsky FSLs around the world.
Sikorsky held celebrations in Aberdeen and Stavanger after the aircraft manufacturer’s S-92 helicopter fleet reached one million flight hours, Lockheed added.
Eighty-seven percent of S-92’s one million flight hours were dedicated to offshore oil missions with a more than 95-percent availability rate, Lockheed noted.
Sikorsky has delivered approximately 275 S-92 helicopters since 2004 and 11 countries use the dual-engine S-92 helicopter for head-of-state missions.
