The National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Journal of Technology Transfer have launched a new prize challenge that seeks participants to develop impact studies on technology transferred from federal laboratories.
Interested parties will write a paper that describes the economic and/or societal impacts of technology created in federal labs and transferred outside of those facilities, NIST said Tuesday.
The top four authors of the challenge will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and the winning paper will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Technology Transfer, according to the agency.
The contest’s main goal is to establish metrics that examine the economic and societal impacts of technology transfer programs at the local, regional, national and global levels.
NIST’s Technology Partnerships Office, organizer of the challenge, will accept submissions through March 31, 2017 and expects to unveil the winners before next summer.
