The U.S. Navy has awarded Mikros Systems an initial $3 million task and delivery order to support the development, logistics and production of a condition-based maintenance technology for combat system sensors on Littoral Combat Ships.
It marks the first order under a potential five-year, $48 million contract Mikros received earlier this month for work on the Navy’s Adaptive Diagnostic Electronic Portable Test Distance Support Sensor Suite, the company said Monday.
Mikros will work to link the ADSSS system to combat system sensor points of the LCS fleet in an effort to help the service branch continuously monitor the shipboard network.
“We are proud of our legacy of support in ensuring the readiness of U.S. Navy combat systems and we look forward to expanding the ADSSS technology to additional LCS and U.S. Naval platforms,” said Tom Meaney, Mikros Systems president and CEO.
The system currently supports the advanced maintenance requirements for eight of the 28 warships in the class, the company noted.
ADSSS is designed to employ smart sensors, model-based prognostics and fault-tolerant networking in order to perform CBM functions across mission-critical complex distributed platforms.
The company’s contract with the Navy also covers linking of the technology to other military vessels such as the branch’s class of destroyers equipped with the Aegis combat system.
