Jacobs Engineering Group has been selected to manage the construction works for EDF Energy’s nuclear power station project in Somerset, U.K.
EDF will kick off the building, marine and civil works on the construction site after it had reached a deal with the U.K. government for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, Jacobs said Monday.
“Jacobs is building a global center of nuclear expertise here in the U.K. and long term we see potential to leverage this U.K.-developed knowledge and expertise to support nuclear projects internationally,†said Alan Seywright, Jacobs’ vice president of U.K. nuclear and defense.
EDF will build the site in partnership with China General Nuclear Corp.
EDF will serve as the owner, operator and licensee for two new reactors planned at the site under terms of the investment framework.
Jacobs expects the new power generation plant to generate more than 3,200 megawatts of electricity for the next six decades.
