Natick, Massachusetts-based metals production firm Infinium has secured a contract from the Defense Logistics Agency to supply the National Defense Stockpile with dysprosium-iron metal.
DLA awarded the contract through a competitive acquisition process and in compliance with the provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2014, Infinium said Wednesday.
Infinium CEO Steve Derezinski said Infinium uses a clean technology-based process to domestically produce rare earth metals and that the company seeks to expand its partnership with the Defense Department through the contract.
Dysprosium is used in the production of magnets used in fighter jets, ground equipment, naval ships and other defense systems.
