droneThe U.S. Department of Homeland Security‘s science and technology directorate has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with Property Drone Consortium in an effort to advance understanding on unmanned aerial system applications for public safety missions.

PDC said Tuesday the agreement will utilize the knowledge and resources of PDC, the DHS S&T First Responders Group and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers.

“UAS data can be used by first responders, as well as by insurers and owners of other properties and structures looking to assess damage and take remedial action relative to providing assistance to victims, quick assessment of claims, and urgent repairs,” said PDC President Charles Mondello.

“This research agreement between DHS S&T partners and the PDC will not only help enhance our understanding of the potential use of UAS, but also provide a framework for collaborative public and private response in post-catastrophe events,” said Stephen Hancock, special projects director for S&T FRG.

Property Drone Consortium is a collaboration between insurance carriers, construction industry leaders and related enterprises that aims to promote research, development and establishment of UAS policies in the insurance and construction industries.
