CH2M has been chosen by a government agency in Ontario, Canada, to serve as a vehicle technology consultant for the province’s Regional Express Rail program.
The RER program is part of the Ontario government’s plan to invest $11.5 billion over 10 years in transit development efforts in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area that includes the electrification of a two-way service on the Metrolinx’s inter-regional transit system GO Transit, CH2M said Thursday.
Metrolinx is a government agency in Ontario that owns the GO Transit system and works to provide mobility platforms for the GHTA.
“This investment in GO Transit will transform how its seven commuter rail corridors are used, bringing new transit options to residents throughout the GTHA,” said Jeff Rankin, Ontario transit systems operations lead at CH2M.
CH2M will provide engineering and program management support to help Metrolinx acquire electric multiple units as well as electric and dual-mode locomotives for the transit system.
CH2M has helped Amtrak deploy its fleet of electric locomotives for the Northeast corridor and assisted Australia in the procurement of electric multiple units.
