RQ-21A BlackjackBoeing subsidiary Insitu has received a $21.6 million contract modification to build and  two RQ-21A Blackjack unmanned aircraft systems for the U.S. Navy and Canada under a foreign military sales program.

The modification covers low-rate initial production lot 5 Blackjack drones, ground control stations and launch and recovery equipment, the Defense Department said Tuesday.

Insitu will perform work in Bingen, Washington and in Hood River, Oregon through December 2017.

The Navy guaranteed the full contract amount from its fiscal 2015 aircraft procurement and foreign military sales funds at the time of award.

The Navy and Marine Corps selected RQ-21A Blackjack in 2010 to meet the services’ need for a small tactical UAS.

Military personnel use RQ-21A Blackjack to perform persistent maritime and land-based tactical reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition data collection and dissemination.
