Boeing and Saab are set to demonstrate the performance and maintainability of their entry to the U.S. Air Force‘s T-X trainer aircraft program using the first two production units.
The Boeing T-X features one engine, twin tails, stadium seating and a cockpit designed to provide ground-based training, Boeing said Tuesday.
The company added the aircraft will work to support the Air Force’s training mission as well as adapt to the military branch’s future technologies, missions and training requirements.
Leanne Caret, president and CEO of Boeing’s defense, space and security business, said the team seeks to deliver the T-X to support training for future Air Force pilots.
The T-X program aims to replace the T-38 on the Air Force fleet and reach initial operational capability in 2024.
