BAE Systems U.S. subsidiary plans to transport to Marine Corps Base Quantico the first Amphibious Combat Vehicle produced under a $104 million contract with the U.S. Marine Corps, USNI News reported Wednesday.
Megan Eckstein writes the vehicle is the first unit BAE Systems Inc. manufactured in a production environment and the ACV incorporates a new engine.
In November 2015, the Marine Corps selected BAE and SAIC to produce an initial set of 13 amphibious combat vehicles and an additional three per company in the future.
The ACV program is scheduled for tests in April 2017 before the government formally accepts the vehicles, USNI News reports.
John Swift, BAE’s ACV program manager, told USNI News the company expects to complete delivery of 16 vehicles to the government by the time the tests start.
BAE has three vehicles still in automotive assembly and 10 more in welding on top of the completed vehicle, Eckstein reports.
