AT&T to Design, Build Mobile Radio Comm Towers for Navy

AT&T has won an $11.3 million firm-fixed-price contract from the U.S. Navy to design and build five land mobile radio communication towers throughout the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, California.

The company’s government solutions business unit will construct 70- to 150-foot-high towers that can operate as standalone facilities in remote areas within the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Defense Department said Wednesday.

The communications towers will be built to provide a secure communications network for personnel training, mission critical users and first responders, as well as radio frequency and cellular coverage between the center and Coleville Military Housing area.

DoD added it expects the project to address the communications requirements of the installation and its surrounding areas.

AT&T is scheduled to finish contract work in March 2019.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command received eight proposals for the project through the Navy’s Electronic Commerce Online portal and obligated the full contract amount from the Navy’s fiscal 2015 military construction contract funds.

The MCMWTC works to train individuals and battalions in combat for summer and winter mountain operations, test cold weather equipment and clothing, and develop doctrines and concepts for mountain and cold weather combat missions.
