space engineeringAirbus‘ defense and space segment has unveiled plans to build and launch four optical satellites in an effort to deliver high-resolution imagery of Earth to customers in 2020 and beyond.

The company said Thursday the constellation will be designed to perform intraday revisits to any point on Earth, support satellite tasking reactivity and capture millions of square kilometers of images per day.

The satellites will include an updated Pleiades optical observation system with business intelligence and analytics features, the company added.

Airbus Defense and Space also plans to develop ground segments to support multimission operations, large-scale image processing and data access systems through the use of cloud and big data management technologies.

Airbus DS aims to solely fund, own and operate the four-satellite constellation in accordance with French laws and regulations.
