Todd McDonell, vice president of global government solutions at Inmarsat, has told Talk Satellite in an interview the company uses its L-band and Ka-band satellite platforms to help military customers address connectivity requirements.
He noted in the interview that the emergence of the network centric warfare concept has increased a demand for interconnection between systems and people, Inmarsat said Wednesday.
“Global Xpress is the first high-throughput satellite service in the mobile arena and we are already looking at necessary investments to make sure we’re ahead of the innovation curve,” said McDonell.
“You have to make investments in your space segment and equipment, as well as in your ground network, regulatory licensing and terminals and bring together the whole scenario so that there’s something that your customer can use.â€
The Global Xpress satellite network is designed with a Ka-band payload for government users to facilitate mobile broadband communications with wideband global satcom platforms and military or commercial satellite terminals, Inmarsat noted.
