SAP National Security Services has developed a tool that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to help counter terrorist activities online, Fast Company reported Thursday.
Steven Melendez writes SAP NS2 currently works with government agencies to monitor terrorism-related activities in social media and with cybersecurity firm ThreatConnect to identify threats in computer networks in real time.
SAP NS2 partnered with ThreatConnect in early August to introduce a SAP HANA-based threat intelligence platform to help security operations staff conduct analytics functions.
Mark Testoni, president and CEO of SAP NS2, told Fast Company that one way the AI works is through the identification of what he describes as “bad actors.”
“Secondarily, once we’ve identified those kinds of players and actors, we can then track their behaviors and organizations,” Testoni added.
The national security community also uses the SAP HANA data processing platform to examine large volumes of data from social media and other public sources, according to the report.
Testoni said SAP HANA incorporates features for network graph analysis, automated machine learning and text processing to define online posts, Melendez reports.
