Raytheon has secured a five-year, $9.1 million contract modification to provide engineering services for the U.S. Navy‘s multi-band satellite communications terminal.
The Defense Department said Tuesday Raytheon’s space and airborne systems unit will perform work on the Navy Multiband Terminal program in Florida and Massachusetts through Aug. 8, 2021.
The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command obligated $1.2 million at the time of the award from the Navy’s fiscal 2017 operations and maintenance funds, DoD added.
The Raytheon-built NMT system works to facilitate connectivity between the Global Information Grid and the computer network of ships or submarines to support the Navy and coalition partners.
NMT is designed to replace existing satcom platforms in nearly 300 Navy ships, submarines and shore stations.
