Northrop Grumman is set to conduct an initial integration event in October to demonstrate the Ground Weapon Locating Radar mode for the AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar system.
The company said Tuesday the IIE includes initial system tests and follows the completed preliminary and critical design reviews in February and August, respectively.
The integration event seeks to demonstrate G/ATOR’s functions to detect and track a variety of rockets, artillery and mortar projectiles at the same time to provide additional data for the remaining integration work, Northrop added.
Roshan Roeder, mission solutions director at Northrop Grumman, said the company will utilize its past work with similar counter-fire targeting systems and risk reduction measures in efforts to reach initial operating capability in mid-2018 for G/ATOR Block II.
G/ATOR works to provide long-range threat detection and tracking to support long-range engagement weapons to counter a variety of threats.
