Gen. Robert Neller, commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, has visited a shipyard run by Huntington Ingalls Industries‘ Ingalls Shipbuilding division in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
Ingalls executives briefed Neller on the four classes of military ships the division is currently building for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard, HII said Wednesday.
Neller also toured the amphibious assault ship Tripoli (LHA 7) and the amphibious transport dock Portland (LPD 27) as well as met craftsmen that work at the Ingalls shipyard during his visit.
“We had a very informative tour with General Neller,†said Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias.
“We were able to show him the important ships we’re building for the sailors and Marines, and he was also able to speak with some of our talented shipbuilders,†Cuccias added.
