Lockheed-Led Team Dispatches 7th LCS to Navy

Lockheed Martin and its team of industry partners have delivered the seventh littoral combat ship and future USS Detroit to the U.S. Navy.

The company said Monday the ship features a modular design, plug-and-play architecture and 40-percent reconfigurable shipboard space designed to support requirement updates.

USS Detroit is the fourth Freedom-class LCS that Lockheed has delivered to the Navy, which will commission the vessel on Oct. 22.

Joe North, vice president and general manager for littoral ships and systems at Lockheed, said USS Detroit will work to support U.S. efforts to deter and combat threats.

Fincantieri Marinette Marine, Gibbs & Cox and 500 more suppliers across 37 states work with Lockheed on the production of the Freedom-variant LCS.

Six Freedom-variant LCS are in construction at Fincantieri and three others are in long-lead material procurement, Lockheed said.
