The General Services Administration plans to require large and medium-sized information technology contractors to publicly disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and related reduction goals through an annual report.
A Federal Register notice posted Wednesday stated GSA wants to include its Alliant 2 Government-wide Acquisition Contract for information technology products and services under the agency’s GHG disclosure requirements.
GSA says the plan is in line with President Barack Obama’s Executive Order 13693 that requires the seven largest procuring agencies to consider contractors’ GHG emissions and management practices in acquisitions.
The agency noted 40 percent of current Alliant 2 contractors publicly report GHG emissions due to requests from non-government customers, investors, insurers and corporate sustainability policies.
GSA also seeks comments from the public while the plan awaits clearance from the Office of Management and Budget.
Public comments will be accepted until Oct. 24.
