The Department of Homeland Security plans to provide $40 million in funds to an institution that will lead a new center of excellence for homeland security quantitative analysis.
DHS said Monday the funds will cover 10 years of CoE operations under a cooperative agreement with the lead institution.
The department added it also seeks potential partners from academia, industry, federally funded research and development centers or federal, state and local agencies to help the lead institution support the center’s activities.
Multi-disciplinary college or university teams with quantitative analysis, operations research and systems analysis, homeland security risk science and economics research experience may submit their proposals for the funding opportunities through the Grants.gov website until Nov. 1.
DHS said it will work with the selected research teams in the effort to develop mathematical, computational and statistical theories that serve to advance quantitative analysis and analytic tools to address homeland security challenges.
DHS noted that the center will also oversee operations research and systems analysis, evaluate future risks to DHS, identify the impact of security threats to the economy and facilitate education and professional development programs on data management and analysis.
