A subsidiary of Airbus‘ defense and space business will supply the VESTA 9-1-1 call handling service to 11 of 22 public safety answering points in North Dakota under a collective contract through the state’s information technology department.
The company said Wednesday Airbus DS Communications will provide the VESTA 9-1-1 system as part of the PSAPs’ effort to deploy a geodiverse regional system that works to prevent lost calls in support of public safety.
“As new technologies continue to emerge, many of our public safety agencies across the state were looking to upgrade to a new call-handling system that would serve their residents’ needs now and into the future,” said Duane Schell, the North Dakota IT department’s network services division director.
Michael Dannenfelzer, Central Dakota Communications Center communications director, said CenCom sought to deploy a geo-redundant service that will provide continuous communications even through major maintenance activities or outages.
Airbus said CenCom of Bismarck, Mandan and Burleigh County was the first to adopt VESTA 9-1-1 followed by Stark County, Ward County, Bottineau/Renville County, Pierce County, Cavalier County and Rolette County, with Mountrail County, State Radio and the Lake Region 911 Center set to implement the technology by the first quarter of 2017.
Independent Emergency Services is the service provider for the mentioned North Dakota PSAPs.
