Lockheed Martin has secured a $36.4 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to perform research and development work under the second phase of the service branch’s System of Systems Integration Technology and Experimentation program.
The Defense Department said Tuesday Lockheed’s aeronautics segment will develop architectures intended to help the Air Force meet air superiority goals in contested environments as well as demonstrate methods for the rapid integration of mission systems into the architectures.
Air Force Research Laboratory will obligate $5.3 million from fiscal 2016 research, development, test and evaluation funds for work to be performed in Fort Worth, Texas through Oct. 30, 2019.
AFRL awarded the contract through a competitive acquisition with two offers received, DoD noted.
The SoSITE program is designed to facilitate the development of SoS architectures that can help USAF maintain air superiority with the use of algorithmic, software and electronics technology.
