A Vencore subsidiary has won a four-year, $9 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to develop software that will work to localize and characterize cyber weapons that have entered the country’s power grid infrastructure.
Vencore Labs will research, create and demonstrate the Scalable and Holistic Energy CybeR-weapon Localization and Characterization platform under the contract, the Defense Department said Friday.
The SHERLOC system will be designed to also map industrial control systems, gather configuration data, identify malfunctioning devices and discover malware, DoD added.
Work will occur at Vencore Labs’ facility in Basking Ridge, New Jersey through July 28, 2020.
The Air Force Research Laboratory received 70 offers for the program and will obligate $1.6 million at the time of the award from the service branch’s fiscal 2016 research, development, test and evaluation funds.
