WISeKey has joined a Microsoft-led global initiative that aims to help connect government agencies, businesses and citizens with urban services through the use of technology.
WISeKey said Monday it will provide an integrated object identity management and cybersecurity tool for cities to securely connect to the Azure cloud computing technology and other Microsoft-made platforms under the CityNext initiative.
“Government employees and city infrastructure from traffic lights and smart parking solutions, to power grids and smart utility meters, are vulnerable to cyberattacks,” said WISeKey CEO Carlos Moreira.
Moreira added WISeKey has collaborated with Microsoft on various cybersecurity projects for governments and cities across the world.
WISeKey said its cryptographic Root of Trust offering is embedded on a device and designed to help IoT product manufacturers secure devices and interactions between people and objects.
The RoT tool also works to serve as common trust anchor that is recognized by operating systems and applications to support authenticity, confidentiality and integrity of online transactions.
Microsoft introduced the CityNext initiative in an effort to deliver personalized services and applications designed to help cities manage existing infrastructure and investments, facilitate real-time dialogue and open opportunities for skilled workers through programs and partnerships.
