Riverbed Technology has unveiled a new research and development center in India in an effort to advance the global distribution of its application performance and cloud networking tools.
Kartik Subbanna, Riverbed’s vice president of engineering in India, will lead the company’s R&D facility in Bangalore and will report to Vineet Abraham, U.S.-based VP of engineering at Riverbed, the company said Wednesday.
Jerry Kennelly, chairman and CEO of Riverbed Technology, said India’s workforce, infrastructure and proximity to emerging markets are the reasons behind the company’s decision to open a new R&D facility in the country.
Riverbed will also use the R&D center as headquarters for its sales and operations in India and plans to triple the size of its engineering team in the country in the next several years.
The company noted the new facility aims to help the company’s India-based engineering team advance the development of platforms in the areas of software-defined wide area networks and other emerging technology areas.
Riverbed launched the new facility two years after it opened the first R&D center in India.
