Raytheon plans to collaborate with Norway-based Kongsberg Defence Systems to manufacture the Naval Strike Missile system and launchers in the U.S.
Raytheon wants to carry out integration and testing work on NSM at its factory in Tucson, Arizona, and produce the NSM launchers at its Louisville, Kentucky-based facility under the partnership with Kongsberg, Raytheon said Wednesday.
NSM is an anti-ship, long-range missile designed to detect and hit hostile maritime- and ground-based targets and has an imaging infrared seeker platform with autonomous target recognition function.
Kongsberg and Raytheon believe NSM could be integrated with the U.S. Navy‘s littoral combat ships for use against enemy aerial defense systems.
Both companies also collaborate on the development of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System and the Joint Strike Missile program under existing partnerships.
