new-microsoft-logo_EMSusie Adams, chief technology officer of Microsoft’s federal business, has urged agencies to use the White House’s proposed $3.1 billion information technology modernization fund for cloud transition analysis efforts, Nextgov reported Friday.

Mohana Ravindranath writes Adams advised government agencies to develop a multiyear plan and use the proposed budget to examine what applications must be transitioned to the cloud.

Agencies will seek funds from the White House’s planned IT Modernization Fund, if approved, to finance their respective budgets, according to the report.

“If we were to give [agencies] guidance, we would tell them: Come up with that 1-, 3-, 5-year plan, actually do the analysis, use some of that money to do the analysis up front,” Adams told Nextgov.

Adams also said security, mobility and intelligence are among the trends that drive Microsoft’s federal business, Ravindranath reports.
