Louis Berger has partnered with three companies to build an innovation center in Newport, Rhode Island as part of an effort to help foster resilience in the seaside city.
Louis Berger said Thursday it formed the Newport Project Development Company with project development firm InfraLinx, construction company Gilbane and international law firm Dentons to help establish the city’s Innovation and Resiliency Center of Excellence.
“The innovation hub will completely change Newport’s future and will serve as a model for improving coastal resiliency and boosting economic growth,” said Raed EL-Farhan, senior vice president and global water market sector lead at Louis Berger.
The 70-acre CoEÂ will be built to serve as a model for coastal cities worldwide to adopt integrated resilience and leadership innovation methods.
Louis Berger noted the center will feature a renewable biomass energy microgrid, a luxury hotel and a training facility.
Newport Project Development Company also plans to collaborate with developers, investors and lenders on the construction project, with Louis Berger as primary adviser and Infralinx as the project developer.
