Lockheed Martin is in the final stage of tests and shipment preparations on DigitalGlobe‘s WorldView-4 Earth imaging satellite to prepare for the Sept. 15 launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Lockheed said Wednesday final preparations on WorldView-4 include calculations on weight and center of gravity, major systems health check and image collection and downlinking tests.
Carl Marchetto, vice president and general manager of Lockheed’s commercial space business, said the satellite will work to support DigitalGlobe customers who need imagery and geospatial applications.
WorldView-4 serves to double DigitalGlobe’s world imagery coverage and build on the geospatial services provider’s 15-year library of time-lapse imagery, Lockheed noted.
The satellite will orbit Earth every 90 minutes and travel 17,000 miles per hour to capture more than 262,500 square miles of the Earth’s surface daily, Lockheed added.
Lockheed’s commercial launch services segment will provide a United Launch Alliance-built Atlas V rocket to carry WorldView-4 to space.
