Jacobs Engineering Group has secured a contract from Network Rail to support the latter’s development consent order submission on a proposed rail link project in the U.K.
Jacobs said Wednesday the project seeks to update rail links from the Great Western main line to Heathrow Airport to provide direct travel to the airport from Reading and Slough.
Jacobs added its team will perform work in U.K. offices through a 27-month period.
Bob Duff, Jacobs senior vice president of buildings and infrastructure, noted the company started its support for the rail link project in October 2011 which involved feasibility plans.
The project is in a consultation phase to reach an agreement on which path to proceed on, Jacobs said.
Following the agreement, Jacobs will run an environmental impact assessment on a 3.1-mile tunneled route to inform the project’s engineering design, construction strategy and environmental mitigation program.
