Inmarsat has partnered with VT iDirect to form a joint research-and-development group that will work to create satellite communications platforms.
The i2 R&D team will work at Inmarsat’s London headquarters to build satcom technology prototypes that have the potential for commercial market deployment, Inmarsat said Wednesday.
Both companies expect the i2 group to develop systems that work to support satcom and terrestrial networks integration and increase waveform performances as well as build smaller satcom terminals.
Michele Franci, chief technology officer at Inmarsat, said the research partnership with VT iDirect supports Inmarsat’s “building block development strategy†that includes the Inmarsat Communications Evolution program with the European Space Agency.
