The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has selected FDH Velocitel to carry out architectural and engineering services in support of tension tests on the Tainter gate trunnion girder anchor rods within dams managed by the service branch.
FDH Velocitel said Tuesday it will apply its proprietary nondestructive test method to help USACE manage an inventory of post-tensioned anchor rods, which make up part of Tainter gate anchorage systems that major U.S. dams currently use.
Robert Lindyberg, vice president of technology and research at FDH Velocitel, said the company partnered with the USACE Engineer Research and Development Center to develop and deploy the test method.
He added that the contract works to help commercialize the NDT method to test critical infrastructure and help generate jobs in the engineering and technical fields in Raleigh, North Carolina.
