The U.S. Navy has awarded EnergySolutions a potential three-year, $38.7 million contract to process various forms of metal for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
EnergySolutions will also provide shipping containers and brokerage services as well as transport materials from multiple NNPP facilities by truck, rail or barge, the Defense Department said Friday.
The company seeks to help the Navy reduce the volume of radioactive waste, materials and residuals under the program through disassembly, decontamination, metal melting, compaction, incineration and resin sluicing/dewatering processes.
Contract work will occur in Oak Ridge, Tennessee through July 2019.
The Naval Supply Systems Command’s Fleet Logistics Center obligated $10,000 at the time of award from fiscal 2016 operations and maintenance funds at the time of award.
The command received one bid for the contract through a solicitation on the FedBizOpps website.
