DigitalGlobe has entered into separate letters of intent with two international defense and intelligence agencies to provide the organizations access to imagery from the company’s WorldView-4 satellite.
One agency is slated to become the company’s 12th Direct Access Program client under a multi-year commitment to task and receive imagery from all WorldView satellites, DigitalGlobe said Thursday.
The company noted the second agency expressed interest for WorldView-4 services.
The tentative deals increase the total amount of WorldView-3 and WorldView-4 customer commitments to $415 million over the past three quarters, with nearly 55 percent of that amount is under firm contract, DigitalGlobe added.
WorldView-4 manufacturer Lockheed Martin said Thursday it has shipped the satellite to Vandenberg Air Force Base after the company completed a series of environmental, functional and performance tests on the satellite.
The satellite, scheduled for Sept. 15 launch aboard a United Launch Alliance-built Atlas V 401 rocket, is designed to orbit Earth every 90 minutes, travel 17,000 miles per hour and capture more than 262,500 square miles of the Earth’s surface everyday, Lockheed noted.
