BAE Systems has completed the second phase of integration testing on its Striker II Helmet Mounted Display fighter pilot helmet held at the company’s site in the United Kingdom.
The company said Monday that the Striker II HMD had passed the trial, which was conducted to test the integration of the helmet’s HMD system to the Eurofighter Typhoon combat jet with analogue-based and digital electronics systems.
Peter Kosogorin, BAE Systems test pilot, said that the testing conducted is considered a milestone towards the full integration of the Striker II to the Typhoon aircraft.
The Striker II’s engineering is designed to provide pilots with situational awareness and high-precision target tracking during missions, as well as night vision functions.
The helmet’s “plug-and-play” integration with existing analogue works to negate the need for physical aircraft hardware modification, said Chris Colston, BAE Systems advanced displays business development director.
