Airbus‘ defense and space business will continue to provide WelComE welfare communication services to the U.K. military through August 2022 under an estimated $20.3 million contract renewal from the U.K. ministry of defense.
The company said Thursday the WelComE services work to supply welfare communications across various operational environments, including satellite phones, Wi-Fi services and video calling.
Airbus Defense and Space added that the WelComE service has served more than 132,000 service personnel and has provided at least 500 million minutes of calls since its deployment to the U.K. MoD 16 years ago.
“It’s reassuring to know that wherever British forces deploy around the world, there is support in place to ensure we have a safe line of communication with our friends and family back home,” said Tom Globe, WelComE service owner.
