Thomas A. (“Tommy”) Gardner, Jr., is the chief technology officer at Jacobs Mission Solutions and is responsible for focusing on data science and systems integration in government markets. Prior to his current position, he served as the chief technology officer at Scitor and at ManTech International.
ExecutiveBiz: What technological advancement do you feel will most significantly impact your business in 2016?
Thomas Gardner: Jacobs consists of a broad collection of engineers and architects in numerous markets such as oil and gas, buildings and infrastructure, mining and minerals, pharmaceuticals, NASA, Defense and the Intelligence Community. The common technology thread throughout all of these markets will be the transition of our employees into the Digital Engineer of the future. Every product or system that is designed, operated or maintained will have sensors, controls and cyber vulnerabilities. Â The Digital Engineer must be conversant in the data analytics, industrial control protection, and cyber defenses that can be applied to their systems. The rapidly changing digital technologies in Big Data, Industrial Internet and Cyber Solutions will make the most significant impact to Jacobs in 2016.
In order to stay ahead in these markets Jacobs is taking this digital data shadow and placing it into the Jacobs Connected Enterprise (JCE). The JCE will interconnect systems allowing for better and faster analytics, decision response time, and cyber protection. Our recent acquisition of Van Dyke Technology Group is a big step in achieving this objective.
I am proud to have been a part in Jacobs taking the lead in moving our engineers and architects to the digital future. I credit the vision of our leadership in positioning Jacobs as the premier technical experts for tomorrow.
