Rockwell Collins will mount its global positioning system technology on Leonardo-Finmeccanica’s naval and artillery weapon suite in a move to assist in military operations.
Leonardo-Finmeccanica is set to fire its Vulcano weapon system with Rockwell Collins’ NavFire Precision Positioning Service GPS under the agreement, Rockwell Collins said Monday.
“We have customized the NavFire receivers for the particular caliber of the ammunition and provided full support to the customer during and after the firing trials,†said Claude Alber, vice president and managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Rockwell Collins.
The NavStrike military GPS has been built based on Rockwell Collins’ 12-channel NavFire GPS receiver and will work to support the projectile’s guidance system.
Rockwell Collins said NavFire GPS also features an anti-spoofing module to help users decrypt precision GPS information.
