NSGIC Names Molly Schar Executive Director

Molly Schar, a nonprofit sector veteran, has been appointed as the first executive director of the National States Geographic Information Council.

Her appointment is effective June 20 and she will support the council’s efforts to promote geospatial coordination among U.S. states and drive national geospatial policy initiatives, NSGIC said Wednesday.

Schar has helped multiple nonprofit organizations to expand programs and raise revenues, according to the council.

“With Molly, NSGIC is poised to boost efforts to engage members from all states, territories and recognized tribal governments as we continue to strive toward the implementation of a National Spatial Data Infrastructure,” said Chris Diller, NSGIC board president.

NSGIC works with government and industry decision-makers to help address national issues that affect states and advocates for the adoption and proper use of geospatial data and technology.

The council’s members represent geographic information officers, state agency GIS leaders and officials of the statewide coordination council, professional organizations and government and commercial entities.
