The U.S. Navy has introduced a Raytheon-built network-enabled weapon to its fleet of air wings deployed worldwide.
The Joint Standoff Weapon C-1 was added to the fleet after the weapon recently completed operational testing against land and sea targets, the Navy said Monday.
JSOW C-1 achieved initial operational capability in early June.
“As our mission’s focus shift, we are providing the warfighter with the first of several net-enabled weapons required to maintain strategic dominance over the Pacific,†said Capt. Jaime Engdahl, precision strike weapons program manager.
The new JSOW model incorporates a Link 16 network radio to engage moving targets at sea and a terminal infrared seeker and global positioning system for guidance.
The weapon will launch from the F/A-18E/F and F-35A/C aircraft.
