Intelsat has been selected to provide satellite services to Myanmar in an effort to build on the country’s 2G and 3G wireless network infrastructure.
Myanmar’s ministry of transport and communications will initially utilize C-band satellite services from Intelsat 902 and Ku-band services from Intelsat 906 for wireless communications services, Intelsat said Friday.
The goal is to expand broadband and internet connectivity to businesses and individuals throughout the country, the company added.
Intelsat CEO Stephen Spengler said the services are intended to help communities gain access to medical and educational programs.
MOTC expects to transition to the Intelsat 39 satellite services by 2018, Intelsat said.
