alliance partnership connectMarlink will integrate Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress maritime communications service with the former company’s portfolio of service offerings under a strategic alliance between the two companies.

Inmarsat said Friday Marlink aims to deliver high-speed broadband connectivity to at least 2,000 ships over five years through Fleet Xpress that Inmarsat unveiled in March.

Fleet Xpress works to provide maritime broadband service through Inmarsat’s Global Xpress broadband network of Ka-band communications satellites and FleetBroadband L-band service as well as facilitate the deployment of Connected Ship applications.

Inmarsat CEO Rupert Pearce said the partnership agreement is part of the company’s push to grow its footprint in the maritime market and build up the potential of its Global Xpress network.

Marlink plans to combine Fleet Xpress with its XChange communication management tool and other value added platforms, according to Inmarsat.
